ABOUT THE AUCHI PEOPLE
The local government’s administrative centre is located at Auchi Sacred Kingdom (ASK), which is a part of Edo State’s Etsako West Local Government Area. Uzairue, South Ibie, Agbede, and The Anwain Clan are further towns in the Etsako West local government region. It served as the administrative centre for five districts’ Kukuruku Division during the time of British colonial administration. It serves as Auchi Polytechnic’s residence.
Jeffrey Obomeghie, a Nigerian-American CEO and writer, Kamaru Usman, a former UFC Welterweight Champion, Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information and Culture, and others were born in Auchi.
Various historical narratives describe the ancestry of the Auchi people. The most well-known of these legends claims that a mass migration left Udo, present-day Benin City, under the leadership of a man named Uchi, along with his family and followers, and eventually settled for the relative peace of the Guinea Savannah belt, now known as Etsako land. Uchi is accompanied by his family and followers. During the reign of Oba Ewuare of the Benin Kingdom, around the middle of the 15th century, it is thought that this exodus took place. Constant warfare and ongoing conflict characterised this time in the history of the Benin empire.
