Chief Akunwafor Ezigbo Obiligbo was a legendary Igbo highlife musician and composer. He was born on August 10, 1904, in Nteje, present-day Oyi LGA, Anambra state. He was a master of Egwu Ekpili, a genre of music that blends storytelling, proverbs, and folk wisdom with native instruments such as the ubo aka (thumb piano) and the ogene (gong). He started his musical career in 1934 after having a dream that inspired him to sing. He recorded many songs and albums that showcased his lyrical prowess and cultural heritage. He was also a traditional Ozo chief with the title of Akunwafor. He died in 1995 and passed on his musical legacy to his son Ajana Obiligbo, who is the father of the popular duo Umu Obiligbo.
