Dr Chinedu Eke is a Nigerian musician and scholar who specializes in early music, especially the sacred and secular vocal music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He was born in Enugu, Nigeria, and belongs to the Igbo ethnic group. He started singing in his local church choir at a young age, and developed a passion for classical music. He studied music at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
He then pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Oxford, where he focused on the music of Thomas Tallis, a 16th-century English composer. He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Music, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and also performs regularly with various early music ensembles in Nigeria and abroad. He is widely regarded as one of the leading experts and performers of early music in Africa.
