Eluigwe Nwa Ugorji is a Nigerian musician specialising in early music, a genre encompassing medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music. He was born in 1978 in Enugu, a city in the Igbo tribe of southeastern Nigeria. He developed an interest in early music at a young age, when he heard recordings of European composers such as Josquin des Prez, Claudio Monteverdi and Johann Sebastian Bach.
He learned to play various instruments, such as the lute, the harpsichord and the recorder, and studied musicology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He also researched the musical traditions of his tribe and other African cultures, and incorporated elements of them into his compositions and performances. He has released several early music albums, solo and with his ensemble, The African Consort. He has also collaborated with other musicians from different genres, such as jazz, pop and Afrobeat. He is widely regarded as one of the leading figures of early music in Africa and beyond.
