About the Catholic Church
With 1.3 billion Catholics baptized globally as of 2019, the Catholic Church, commonly known as the Roman Catholic Church, is the biggest Christian denomination. It has been crucial to the history and advancement of Western civilisation as the world’s largest and oldest continually operating international institution. There are 24 sui iuris churches that make up the church, including the Latin Church and 23 Eastern Catholic Churches. Together, these churches make up nearly 3,500 dioceses and eparchies spread out across the globe. The head pastor of the church is the pope, who is the bishop of Rome. The central governing body of the church is the bishopric of Rome, also known as the Holy See. The Roman Curia, the Holy See’s executive body, is based in the tiny city of Vatican City.
English Catholic hymns are religious songs that are specifically written for the Catholic Church in England. They are typically associated with liturgical worship and are often sung during Mass. Many English Catholic hymns have a long history and can trace their origins back to the early days of the Church. Some of these hymns have become quite popular and are well-known by Catholics around the world. In recent years, there has been a trend towards incorporating more contemporary music into Catholic worship, but traditional hymns still play a significant role in many Catholic churches. It is worth noting that some English Catholic hymns have a close relationship with traditional nursery rhymes.
