Moses Orimolade Tunolase established the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim (commonly referred to as the esocs) as a Christian denomination in Nigeria in 1925. When he released Christina Abiodun Akinsowon from a protracted trance in which she was mute and deaf, Orimolade attracted a lot of media attention. As father and adopted daughter, Orimolade Tunolase and Abiodun Akinsowon teamed up and volunteered their skills to heal and pray for individuals after the healing event.
The group of Cherubim and Seraphim has dreams and visions that help to establish a link between God and people. Jesus Christ had given them the order to name their sect seraphim in 1925. They changed the name of their church to the Cherubim and Seraphim in 1926 by adding the word “Cherubim” to the end.
Several decades after the Cherubim and Seraphim were made, new churches were founded by various denominations adhering to their traditions. One of the churches that had its start under “similarly remarkable conditions” as the Cherubim and Seraphim was the Church of Aladura, which was founded in 1930 under the leadership of Josiah Oshitelu. The Aladura movement church started to spread over the world during the 1940s, from locations in Africa to other English-speaking nations.
