Osayamore Joseph Early Music Life (Osayamore Joseph Biography Tribe & Genre of Music i.e The Type of Music)
Osayomore Joseph was a Nigerian music legend who was born on October 29, 1952, in Ugha village near Benin City, Edo State. He started his musical career as a member of the Nigerian Army Officers Mess band in Lagos, where he learned to play the flute and guitar. He was inspired by Sir Victor Uwaifo, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and King Sunny Ade, and released his first album in 1976. He returned to Benin in 1980 and became popular among the Edo people with his songs that combined funk, Afrobeat, highlife and Edo traditional rhythms. Some of his hits include **Efewedo**, **Ororo No Dey Fade** and **Soja Go Soja Come** .
Osayomore Joseph was also known as a freedom fighter and an activist musician who criticized local and national political corruption through his music. He was arrested and jailed several times for his outspoken views, and he made a bold statement with his album **June 12 Is God’s Mandate**, which supported the democratic election of M.K.O. Abiola that was annulled by General Babangida in 1992. In one of his songs, **Baba Na Wa**, he called Babangida “evil,” the “original criminal,” and the “father of all disasters”. Osayomore Joseph died on June 11, 2022, at the age of 72, after suffering a stroke .
