Ubulu International Band of Nigeria is a musical group that plays a type of music called Ubulu, a genre of highlife music from the Igbo tribe of southeastern Nigeria. The band was founded by King Love A.U. Ubulu, who was also known as Chief King Ochiligwe Ubulu or King Ubulu. He was born in 1947 in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State, and started his musical career in the 1970s. He recorded many albums and songs, such as Anyi Bu Ofu, Ebele, Coamaj Special, Obi Eze Special, and Ubulu 80 Special. He was popular for using the ogene (a metal gong) and the ekwe (a wooden slit drum) in his songs.
The band continued to perform and record after his death, with some of his sons and other musicians joining. They have maintained the legacy of their founder and leader, and have kept the Ubulu music alive and relevant in the Nigerian music scene. Some of their recent albums include Ikpe Abia Ngbuluke Abia, Onwudi, and Uwa Dike. They have also collaborated with other artists, such as Rogana Ottah, Eric Enuma, and Adviser Isioma. The band is known for their energetic and lively performances, often featuring dancing and singing with the audience.
