About the Yoruba People
The Yoruba are a West African ethnic group that mostly inhabits areas of Nigeria, Benin, and Togo (Yoruba: run Yorùbá, m Odùduwà, m Káàár-ojire). Yorubaland is a term that is frequently used to refer to the parts of these nations where Yoruba people are the majority. More over 50 million Yoruba live in Africa, along with a smaller number of Yoruba beyond the continent and more Yoruba living in the diaspora. The vast majority of Yoruba people currently reside in Nigeria, where they are one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa and, according to CIA estimates, account for 21% of the nation’s population. Yoruba is the Niger-Congo language with the highest native speaker population, and is spoken by the majority of Yoruba people.
