Saheed Osupa Early Music Life (Saheed Osupa Biography Tribe & Genre of Music i.e The Type of Music)
Saheed Osupa is a Nigerian musician who specializes in the Fuji genre of music. He was born in Ajegunle, Lagos State, to a family of drummers. His father, Moshood Ajiwere Layeye, was a prominent Fuji musician and also his mentor. Saheed Osupa started his musical career as a teenager, playing in local bands and performing at social events. He later joined the band of the legendary Fuji musician, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, as a backup singer.
He learned a lot from Barrister and developed his own style of Fuji music, which he called “Hip-Fuji”. He released his first album, Fuji Fa Disco, in 1992, and since then he has recorded over 40 albums. He is known for his versatility, creativity and lyrical prowess. He sings in Yoruba, English and Pidgin languages, and incorporates elements of hip hop, juju, gospel and reggae into his music. He is also a social critic and an advocate for peace and justice. He has won several awards and honors, including the Best Fuji Artiste of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards in 2010.
